Competition, like choice, is fundamental to life. Cooperation, the choice to work together, is also fundamental to life.

Intellectual property rights, or the right of exclusion for introducing novel (implicitly useful) things, can be used to increase diffusion of inspired choosing, so can be used to increase life. This is the context in which it should be supported. If its usage is for exclusion towards ease for the few at the expense of the many, it is quite likely that it should and will be opposed. It all depends.
