Aikido is a process of social change - one part of an ecosystem influencing another part of that eco-system forward evolutionally. The current evolutional stage is from economic profit maximizing to fruition maximizing. A key past evolutional stage was from war spoils maximizing to economic profit maximizing. (As such, the fight in Iraq is part of a negative turning cycle that hopefully - but not assuredly precedes evolution further out of the cycle of military conflict).

Therefore, examples such as the British West Indies Trading Company (do I have that name right), et al., who introduced inter-national/inter-tribal trade as an alternative to simply taking by brute force represent the Aikido Activists of the time.
