It seems an important concept to always ask why - essentially what Plato seems to be saying here - yet I am not sure this passes the test of profession-centrism (overly focusing on one's own profession … i.e. the philosopher emphasizing the importance of philosophy).

If all businesses concerned themselves with what business SHOULD be, perhaps business traditions would be less rote, less fixated on least-common-denominator business behavior, etc. That seems likely enough. But it also seems natural that this type of catalyzing leadership activity would tend to be undertaken by the few -- at least today, under today's most common notions of economy, which is less involving inspired choosing as it might be in the future. But the prerequisite would seem to be a greater diffusion of opportunity towards inspired choosing (greater authentic teaching/behaving). In reality, I suspect that the two are so coactively and coherently tied, that they can only evolve together in lock step … yet with individual leadership catalyzing group leadership (Integrated Aikido Enterprises?) catalyzing broader cultural transformation, perhaps?
